It’s all about the heart

Book proceeds support local hospital program.

For author Wendy Erlanger, giving to the community is her way of helping friends, family, neighbours and strangers. “It’s a little bit of good that I hope will ripple out into the world. It is something I MUST do,” she said.

Her first book, More Than Soup, a collection of restorative recipes and comforting ideas, has raised thousands of dollars for CancerCare Manitoba’s soup program. The newly launched More Than Soup with Heart, with all proceeds going to the St. Boniface Hospital Foundation’s Heart Art Bags program, is a compilation of heart-healthy recipes and heart-smart tips to de-stress and find balance.

Born and raised in Winnipeg, Erlanger moved to California in 1986 to teach. There she met her husband and had two children, before returning to Winnipeg with her family in 2009.

It’s a little bit of good that I hope will ripple out into the world. It is something I MUST do.

“The idea to create More Than Soup, my first one six years ago, came to me while I was riding my bike, thinking about my loved ones who had been recently diagnosed with cancer, and at the same time I was pondering how much soup I had been making for everyone.”

CancerCare Manitoba appreciated the first book that funded a program that brought soup to patients receiving from treatments. St. Boniface Hospital’s Foundation is grateful for the Heart Art Bags that will offer families the opportunity to create things to decorate the recovery room for their loved one.
