Modern Coffee Now Open
It’s not uncommon to see a patron strumming on a guitar. Or friends embroiled in deep conversation on the green lounge chairs in the corner. Or grandparents encouraging their grandbabies to create something special at the art table.
And that’s exactly how Allison Slessor hoped things would be when she formally opened the doors to Modern Coffee Winnipeg this week.
The ultra cozy cafe at 191 Inkster Boulevard, tucked behind Sonia’s Flowers at 1459 Main Street, may be the North End’s first bonafide coffeeshop. Pull up a well-used dining room chair, admire the reclaimed counter that hailed from a long-gone Interlake grocery store, spot the light fixtures from beloved Shanghai Restaurant and sip your latte from a generous FiestaWare mug.
The shop featuring a rotating cast of coffees from Deluca’s and Black Pearl along with pastries from neighbourhood favourite Gunn’s.
The shop is open at 8 am Monday to Friday and 10 am on Saturday.
